DTF raid of Wellsville home yields one arrest

A search warrant served at a Wellsville home by the Columbiana County Drug Task Force on Friday afternoon resulted in one arrest and the seizure of more than $26,000 in narcotics.

Taru Smith, 36, was taken into custody on a drug possession warrant after DTF officers, assisted by personnel from the Wellsville Police Department and numerous other agencies, served a search warrant at 906 Commerce St., where Smith resides with Kristy Dillard.

According to a press release from the DTF, the warrant was the result of a four-month investigation. Found in the house were 165 grams of crack cocaine, 42 grams of powder cocaine and 30 grams of heroin, along with more than $5,000 in cash. Total street value of the narcotics seized was estimated at more than $26,000.

DTF officers were assisted by Wellsville Police officers, as well as personnel from the Columbiana County Sheriff's Department and Special Response Team, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Although the press release does not state how many individuals were at the house at the time of the raid, its states that charges against numerous other suspects are pending further investigation.
