Several arrested on drug charges in Defiance County

Several people were arrested on drug charges Tuesday in Defiance County following lengthy undercover drug investigation.

Officials with the MultiArea Narcotics Task Force (MAN Unit) were assisted by deputies with the Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Defiance Police Department and numerous other departments including Defiance County Common Pleas Court, Defiance County Prosecutor’s Office, Child Protective Services, Adult Parole Authority in rounding up several of the individuals following indictments by a Defiance County grand jury. Many of the suspects apprehended Tuesday also appeared in Defiance County Common Pleas Court that day.

MAN Unit director Doug Engel said the Tuesday’s roundup was the result of a two-year investigation by the agency that focused primarily on cocaine and heroin-related offenses.

“The drug agents have spent thousands of hours working this operation and should be applauded for their hard work,” said Engel. He said many of the individuals indicted are “mid- to upper-level drug traffickers” who have allegedly been involved in selling larger amounts of narcotics. “This was a major organization that we have infiltrated and dismantled,” said Engel.

Defiance County Prosecutor Morris Murray said his office continues to work closely with the local law enforcement agencies, and particularly the MAN Unit, in prosecuting the offenders. “This is part of the continuing effort to deal with the (drug problem) locally.”
