Smoke shop robbery suspect in custody

With the help of several area law enforcement agencies, the Port Clinton Police Department has arrested a man believed to be responsible for an armed robbery Saturday at Mickey's Smoke Shop.

Trevor J. Boss, 31, of Oak Harbor, reportedly also admitted to robbing the Dollar General in Oak Harbor on Dec. 21, according to a statement from Port Clinton police.

Boss was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Toledo and charged with one felony count of aggravated robbery. He is being held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility.

He is charged with brandishing a a silver handgun at a cashier at Mickey's Smoke Shop on Perry Street and demanding money. Police allege he fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

The handgun used during the robbery has been retrieved by police, according to the statement.

"Working with agent Donald St. Clair of the Ottawa County Drug Task Force, we suspected early on the robberies were connected," said Detective Sgt. Corbin Carpenter of the Port Clinton Police Department.

After talking to witnesses of the Oak Harbor robbery, Carpenter said a description of the vehicle led them to more help in tracking down Boss. With the help of the U.S. Marshals Service in Toledo and area police departments, Boss was found and arrested.

Carpenter said Boss admitted to both robberies, but stated he did not use a gun to rob the Dollar General in Oak Harbor.

According to Carpenter, Boss gave a Dollar General employee a note demanding money during the alleged robbery Dec. 21.

"Boss has been very cooperative with us," Carpenter said.

Boss is being held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility without bail. Carpenter said he will face arraignment in front of a judge, where his bail will be determined.
