2 nabbed on drug charge

Two people were arrested on a drug charge during a traffic stop in Tiffin Friday afternoon.

Steven R. Lewis, 24, and Karalyn E. Porter, 22, were charged with trafficking in heroin, according to a release from Seneca County Drug Task Force-METRICH Enforcement Unit.

Detective Chuck Boyer, unit coordinator, said law enforcement officers were going to execute a search warrant at Tiffin Motel, 315 W. Market St., where the suspects were staying, and the suspects got in a car and left when officers were going to the motel. The car was pulled over in front of Columbian High School as school was letting out, he said.

The search warrant was executed in room No. 28 at Tiffin Motel.

The search warrant, which was signed by Judge Mark Repp of Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court, yielded money, suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, drug abuse instruments and criminal tools, according to the release.

Additional charges of trafficking heroin, possession of heroin, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug abuse instruments are pending on Lewis and Porter upon conclusion of the investigation and the return of the laboratory analysis of substances found in the motel room, it states.

Boyer said officers had been receiving complaints of drug activity at the motel, and they observed the same activity. They had been investigating Lewis and Porter for about two weeks, he said.

Tiffin Police Department officers assisted with the operation. Originally published in the Advertiser Tribune on March 20, 2015.
