East Palestine crash uncovers suspected meth lab

A traffic crash in East Palestine turned into the discovery of suspected mobile meth lab.

Police Chief Kevin Dickey tells 21 News that a car driven by 22-year old Jordan Wales struck a parked car along East Market Street near James Street at 8:47 p.m. Sunday night.

The investigating officer says he saw Wales take a bag out of the trunk of his car and placed it outside.

Police say a search of the bag turned up a plastic pop bottle that they believe had been used to mix chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Members of the East Palestine Fire Department were already on the scene. The officer also called members of the Columbiana County Drug Task force, who donned hazmat suits and made sure that the chemicals would not pose a hazard to the surrounding homes.

Wales is charged with illegal possession of chemicals used to make methamphetamine.
