South Central Ohio Major Crimes Unit

The Major Crimes Unit is an Ohio HIDTA multijurisdictional law enforcement task force that serves the citizens of Fairfield, Athens, and Pickaway counties and the city of Logan in Hocking County. These jurisdictions with a combined population of over 280,000 people include U.S. Routes 33 & 23 which connect Columbus to the Ohio River. The Major Crimes Unit employs a comprehensive strategy combining complex conspiracy investigations targeting sources of supply, street-level enforcement aimed at addressing quality of life complaints in the community, and a robust outreach program providing expedited access to treatment and recovery options outside of the criminal justice system. Participating agencies within the task force include The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Pickerington Police Department, Fairfield County Prosecutors Office, Logan Police Department, Hocking County Prosecutors Office, Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Police Department, The Ohio University Police Department, Athens County Prosecutors Office, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, Circleville Police Department, the Pickaway County Prosecutors Office, and the Ohio National Guard Counterdrug Program. The task force also collaborates closely with the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center, the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
