Former Girard police captain pleads guilty to drug charges

Richard G. Ross, 73, of Girard, a retired former captain on the Girard Police Department, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted aggravated drug trafficking today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. He will be sentenced later.

The U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitives Task Force arrested Ross in May after he was secretly indicted on two counts of aggravated drug trafficking.

Police said he sold prescription drugs in December to an undercover investigator with the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force.

Ross has been retired since at least 2001. He was a retired Girard police captain in 2001 when he served as a member of the Girard Civil Service Commission, according to Vindicator files.
