Ironton Man Arrested Following Marijuana Mail Delivery

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- It was the smell coming from two U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail boxes that led investigators to a drug bust in Lawrence County, Ohio, netting more than 19 pounds of marijuana.

"It was the odor that was the first alert," Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. "They didn't have it shrink wrapped quite good enough, and the smell was escaping the package."

Two packages with a street value estimated between $28,000 and $38,000 were confiscated.

Ian Terril Edens, of the 500 block of North 6th Street in Ironton, will be arraigned on Thursday on two drug trafficking counts.

If convicted, he could face up to 16 years in jail.

IRONTON Ohio (WSAZ) -- An Ironton man is under arrest after authorities say they intercepted two packages that that contained marijuana bricks and were being mailed to him.

The Lawrence County, Ohio Sheriff says that on Friday, his office, the Drug and Major Crimes Task Force, and US Postal Inspectors began investigating the “suspicious” packages that were at the Ironton Post Office.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless says the packages were being sent to separate addresses in Ironton.

Lawless says that on that Monday, law enforcement agencies tracked the delivery of the packages. One was delivered to a residence in the 700 block of Walnut Street, the other to a residence in the 500 block of North 6th Street.

Following the deliveries, search warrants were executed at both residences and the packages of marijuana, that weighed a combined 19 pounds, were recovered along with other miscellaneous evidence, according to the Sheriff.

Authorities arrested Ian Terril Edens, 25, at the 6th Street address and charged him with two counts of trafficking in drugs in the presence of a juvenile and within the vicinity of schools.

Edens is being held in the Lawrence County Jail.
