Not guilty pleas made in meth case

Two Chesapeake residents, arrested last week on drug charges, pleaded not guilty in Lawrence County Municipal Court on Monday.

Kevin T. Slone, 30, and Tonya Burggraf, 45, both of 1087 Township Road 309, Chesapeake, entered their pleas to charges of manufacturing drugs, a second-degree felony, and were assigned public defenders. Slone will be represented by Mike Davenport and Burggraf by Luke Styer.

The pair was arrested Wednesday night by the Lawrence County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement had come to the Chesapeake residence to serve the two with warrants that had come from a secret indictment over a series of controlled drug buys, according to Sheriff’s Detective Aaron Bollinger.

When the officers arrived to make that arrested they allegedly discovered an active meth lab within the house, Bollinger said.

The lab was dismantled and the two were taken to the Lawrence County Jail, where they remain.

They both will have preliminary hearings in the courtroom of Municipal Judge Donald R. Capper on Friday.
