'Operation Shield' Nets 84 Felony Arrests

Operation Shield, a 48-hour law enforcement blitz, has sent dozens to jail.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the Ohio Highway patrol to infiltrate neighborhoods south of I-70.

Sheriff Zach Scott said Operation Shield resulted in 964 citations, 11 OVI arrests, and 84 felony arrests.

Scott said law enforcement seized more than 26,000 unit doses of heroin, about three pounds of cocaine, and 22 marijuana plants, as well as three weapons.

Law enforcement launches Operation Shield at least once a year, and the sheriff says it makes a difference.

"We had people talking when we were actually hitting areas on the Hilltop, Franklinton, they were saying it was kind of funny for weeks at a time the streets just cleaned up and dried up and no one was around,” Sheriff Scott said.

Law enforcement says Operation Shield also resulted in the recovery of two stolen vehicles.
