Pair arrested during Monday METRICH raid on Holzworth

Two people were charged with possession of drugs and endangering children after a METRICH raid Monday at 468 Holzworth Drive.

Le Auntre C. Carter, 25, of 125 Rowland Ave., and Nayyriah S. Young, 26, of 468 Holzworth Drive, could face additional charges after a review by the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Detectives with the METRICH Enforcement Unit acted on a tip that occupants at 468 Holzworth Drive were in possession of cocaine that they may have received through the mail. Detectives contacted Carter in the driveway when he was trying to leave the residence.

They noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to the recovery of a small amount of marijuana, according to the report. Carter was arrested and then reportedly attempted to destroy cocaine that was hidden on him while being transported to jail, officers alleged.

Detectives discovered Young, Carter’s girlfriend, was inside the residence with two small children. Young refused to allow detectives inside the residence to check on the welfare of the children, police said.

After negotiating with Young over the phone, she opened a living room window to speak with detectives. Police reported a strong odor of marijuana came from inside the house.

According to authorities, Young and two children were removed from the residence. The children were released to a family member at the scene.

Detectives drafted a search warrant and returned with Mansfield police around 10 p.m. to conduct the search, which uncovered a large amount of crack, cash and drug paraphernalia, authorities said. Detectives contacted Richland County Children Services.
