Task force apprehends wanted suspect

A Bellefontaine man was lodged on multiple drug charges after a brief foot chase around 1:15 p.m. Monday.

Detectives with the Logan County Joint Drug Task Force observed Chase M. Whiting, 22, of 410 N. Detroit St., exit a room at Super 8 Motel, 1117 N. Main St., and get into a car operated by Monica F. Lehman, also of 410 N. Detroit St.

The detectives followed in an unmarked car until an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department in a marked cruiser caught up with the car on west High Avenue.

When the car stopped, the wanted suspect ran off west and across the CSX Transportation railroad tracks. He was tackled by a detective as he tried to climb an embankment west of the tracks.

As the detective struggled with the suspect, Mr. Whiting tossed two plastic bags about five feet. One contained crack cocaine and the other marijuana.

The suspect was served with a three-count warrant from December for trafficking in crack cocaine and was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
