Franklin County authorities have served five search warrants at local convenience stores and residences as part of an operation targeting synthetic drug sales. According to a news release on Thursday, officials seized several thousand packages of drugs known as bath salts and spice on Wednesday afternoon.

The Franklin County Drug Task Force and the Ohio Investigative Unit coordinated together to conduct Project Synergy, a DEA nationwide synthetic narcotics enforcement project.

A drug task force from central Ohio stationed in Franklin County Seized over 6,000 packages of synthetic marijuana on Wednesday 5/2/12.  The sale of synthetic marijuana, marketed in brand names such as K2 incense, were prohibited this past October.

Seven teams of the Franklin County Drug Task Force fanned out across central Ohio Wednesday as part of Operation Synthetic Drugs. Between 2-8 p.m., teams visited 148 stores, making 38 different buys of synthetic drugs, 10TV’s Kevin Landers reported.
